Everyday care that keeps small things small.
Regular check-ups and hygiene visits are where most dental care happens. We look after the whole mouth, explain what we see in plain language, and suggest only what we think is worth doing.

Overview
What general dentistry covers
General dentistry is the routine care that helps keep teeth and gums healthy: examinations, professional cleaning, fillings, and advice on looking after your mouth between visits.
At a check-up your dentist looks at your teeth, gums and soft tissues, asks about any changes you have noticed, and talks you through anything that needs attention. If treatment is suggested, you’ll hear why, what the options are and what each would involve before deciding anything.
How often you visit is something your dentist will recommend based on your own mouth, not a fixed schedule for everyone.
Why patients enquire
Common reasons patients book
- A routine check-up It’s been a while, or you’re new to the area and looking for a practice.
- Cleaning and hygiene A professional clean to remove build-up that brushing can’t reach.
- Sensitivity Teeth that react to hot, cold or sweet things.
- Bleeding gums Gums that bleed when you brush or floss.
- A chipped or worn filling Something feels rough, sharp or different.
- Questions about home care Brushing, flossing, products, or habits like grinding.
The process
What it generally involves
Every plan is individual. This is the usual shape of treatment; your dentist will explain exactly what applies to you.
01
Conversation
We start by asking how things feel and whether anything is worrying you.
02
Examination
A careful look at teeth, gums and soft tissues, with X-rays only when they are clinically useful.
03
Explanation
Your dentist shows you what they found and explains any options in plain language.
04
A plan you agree to
Any treatment, with its cost, is written down before it starts. Nothing happens without your agreement.
Is it right for me?
Every mouth is different. What is right for you depends on an examination by a qualified dentist, so the information on this page is general and not a substitute for individual advice.
Questions

How often should I have a check-up?
It varies from person to person. Your dentist will suggest an interval based on your oral health and any risk factors, and review it at each visit.
Do I need X-rays at every visit?
No. X-rays are taken when your dentist believes they will provide useful information, and the reason is explained to you first.
I haven’t been to a dentist for years. Is that a problem?
Not at all. Many patients come to us after a long gap. We’ll start with a conversation and a gentle examination, without judgement.
Do you see children?
Yes. Families are welcome, and we try to make early visits relaxed and positive for younger patients.
