Overview
How professional whitening works
Whitening uses a bleaching gel to lighten the colour of natural tooth enamel. Supervised by a dentist, it is planned around your teeth, with the strength and method chosen to suit you.
Whitening does not change the colour of fillings, crowns or veneers, so existing restorations may no longer match afterwards. Your dentist will point this out before you begin.
Some people notice temporary sensitivity during treatment. How much lighter teeth become, and how long it lasts, varies between individuals and depends on diet and habits.

Is it right for me?
Whitening is not suitable for everyone, for example during pregnancy, with untreated decay or gum disease, or for some types of discolouration. Please talk to a qualified dentist before starting any whitening product.
Questions
Questions about teeth whitening
Can’t see your question? Call the practice and speak to someone who can help, or browse all FAQs.
Will whitening make my teeth very white?
Results vary. Whitening lightens your natural shade; how much depends on your teeth and the cause of the staining. Your dentist will set realistic expectations.
Does whitening hurt?
Some people experience temporary sensitivity. Your dentist can suggest ways to manage it, and will adjust the approach if needed.
How long does whitening last?
It varies. Food, drink and smoking all affect how long the result lasts. Occasional top-ups may be suggested.
Will my fillings or crowns whiten too?
No. Whitening only affects natural tooth enamel, so restorations may need to be considered as part of the plan.
